ATLANTA – SunTrust Robinson Humphrey (STRH) announced today the addition of key teammates focused on serving the sports, entertainment, and music industries, broadening the firm’s existing franchise in communications and internet & media. These senior teammates will further leverage the capabilities of the full service corporate and investment bank to serve their client’s unique needs.
Alphonse Lordo, managing director, and Sutton Fannon, director, join from SunTrust’s Private Wealth Management Sports & Entertainment Group (SEG). The pair will maintain their industry focus, serving clients in the film, TV and digital sectors, as well as talent and management companies across North America and Europe. They are based in the firm’s Los Angeles office. Further, Charles J. (CJ) Johnson, managing director, joins from SEG, and will continue to serve clients in the areas of sports, music, live entertainment, exhibition, talent and management agencies. He is based in Atlanta.
“Over the past several years, we have expanded our presence in the entertainment business through various transactions, including deals with clients such as Lionsgate, MGM, and Lantern Entertainment (formerly TWC),” said Lordo. “Our ability to deliver a full suite of industry expertise along with the capabilities of a full-service corporate and investment bank are a real competitive advantage for both us and our clients.”
“Since our team’s formation, we have deeply expanded our knowledge base and relationships, growing the group to a more than $2 billion portfolio,” said Fannon. “It was a natural evolution from a strategic view to marry the resources of STRH, capitalizing on the strategic dialogue and transactions we handle on behalf of our clients.”
“We provide a broad array of financial services to our clients, including: merger and acquisition advisory services, public and private equity and debt capital raising as well as traditional banking services,” said Johnson. “Our full complement of capabilities, married with decades of industry expertise positions us to best serve our clients, including Round Hill Music, Downtown Music, Reservoir Media Management, Spirit Music, and Live Nation.”
Lordo joined SunTrust in 2017 after spending five years at OneWest Bank, where he was an integral part of launching an Entertainment Group. Prior to that, he worked in the debt capital markets group at BNP Paribus/Bank of the West and in middle market coverage at US Bank.
Alphonse received his B.S. in Finance from Saint Louis University and his M.B.A. from Pepperdine University.
Sutton joined STRH’s Consumer & Retail Investment Banking Group in 2006. In 2013, he moved to Los Angeles to focus on the Film/TV sector with the firm’s Sports & Entertainment Group. Sutton graduated from the Kenan Flagler Business School of UNC-Chapel Hill in 2006.
Johnson has been with SunTrust for more than 20 years. Prior to starting the corporate and investment banking practice focused on sports and entertainment, he was a managing director in the firm’s Consumer & Retail Investment Banking Group. Johnson previously held roles with Credit Suisse and Bank of America. He is a graduate of Morehouse College, with a B.A. in business.
